Workplace Expectations
Students will be learning about the Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Skills (SCANS) appointed by the Secretary of Labor. The Commission determined the skills our young people need to succeed in the workplace in the 21 st Century. The objective of the SCANS Report was to provide an understanding of changes that must be made to enable students to develop the high performance skills needed to succeed in today’s high performance workplace. Students will discuss why the government study was conducted, it’s importance, the main areas of concern, and how job skills and competencies differ. They will determine the difference between ethical and legal expectations of employees. Students will learn about employee/employer relationships, what employers expect from employees, and what employees expect from employers.
